Processional Hymn 78

  1. PRAISE the Lord, His glories show,
    Saints within His courts below,
    Angels round His throne above,
    All that see and share His love,
    Earth to heaven, and heaven to earth,
    Tell His wonders, sing His worth;
    Age to age, and shore to shore.
    Praise Him, praise Him, evermore.
  2. Praise the Lord, His goodness trace;
    Praise His providence and grace,
    All that He for man hath done,
    All He sends us through His Son;
    Strings and voices, hands and hearts,
    In the concert bear your parts;
    All that breathe, your Lord adore,
    Praise Him, praise Him, evermore.
  3. Praise the Lord, His Love unfold,
    Though the half can ne’er be told;
    Love, it flameth in the sun—
    Love, its stream doth ever run
    From the Father and the Son
    And the Spirit, Three in One,
    Triune God, Whom we adore—
    Praise Him, praise Him evermore. Amen.

The Collect

ALMIGHTY GOD, Father of love, we thy servants do give thee most humble and hearfelt thanks for all thy goodness and loving-kindness to us and to all men. We bless thee for our creation, preservation and all the blessings of this life; but, above all, for thine inestimable love in the enlightening of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ, for the means of grace and for the hope of glory. And, we pray thee, give us that due sense of thy loving-kindness that our hearts may be unfeignedly thankful and that we may show forth thy praise, not only with our lips but in our lives, by giving up ourselves to thy service and by walking before thee in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Christ our Lord, to whom with thee and the Holy Ghost be all honour and glory throughout the ages of ages. Amen.

The Epistle

The portion of scripture appointed for the epistle is taken from the twenty-second chapter of the second book of Samuel, beginning at the second verse.

THE Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer, the God of my rock, in him will I trust; he is my shield, my high tower and my refuge. In my distress I called upon the Lord; he delivered me from my strong enemy and from them that hated me. The Lord was my stay and he brought me forth also into a large place. Thou art my lamp, O Lord; the Lord will lighten my darkness. His way is perfect; the word of the Lord is tried; he is a buckler to all that trust in him: he is my strength and power. Thou, O Lord, hast given me the shield of thy salvation and thy gentleness hath made me great. Thou hast lifted me up on high above them that rose up against me; thou hast delivered me from the violent man; for the Lord wrought a great victory that day.

The Gospel

The holy gospel is taken from the twelfth chapter of the Gospel according to St John, beginning at the third verse.

JESUS said: The hour is come, that the Son of Man should be glorified. Amen, amen, I say unto you: Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die it abideth alone; but if it die it bringeth forth much fruit. He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. If any man serve me, let him follow me: and where I am, there shall also my servant be. And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.

Offertory Hymn 53

  1. NOW thank we all our God,
     With heart, and hands, and voices,
    Who wondrous things hath done,
     In Whom His world rejoices;
    Who from our mother’s arms
     Hath blessed us on our way
    With countless gifts of love,
     And still is ours to-day.
  2. O may this bounteous God,
     Through all our life be near us,
    With ever joyful hearts
     And blessed peace to cheer us;
    And keep us in his grace,
     And guide us when perplexed,
    And free us from all ills
     In this world in the next.
  3. All praise and thanks to God
     The Father now be given,
    The Son, and Him who reigns
     With Them in highest heaven,
    The One Eternal God,
     Whom heaven and earth adore,
    For thus it was, is now,
     And shall be evermore. Amen.

Recessional Hymn 56

  1. JOYFUL, joyful, we adore Thee,
     God of glory, Lord of love;
    Hearts unfold like flowers before Thee,
     Hall Thee as the sun above,
    Melt the clouds of sin and sadness;
     Drive the dark of doubt away;
    Giver of immortal gladness,
     Fill us with the light of day.
  2. All Thy works with joy surround Thee,
     Earth and heaven reflect Thy rays,
    Stars and angels sing around Thee,
     Center of unbroken praise:
    Field and forest, vale and mountain,
     Blossoming meadow, flashing sea,
    Chanting bird and flowing fountain,
     Call us to rejoice in Thee.
  3. Thou art giving and forgiving,
     Ever blessing, ever blest,
    Well-spring of the joy of living,
     Ocean-depth of happy rest!
    Thou the Father, Christ our Brother,
     All who live in love are Thine:
    Teach us how to love each other,
     Lift us to the Joy Divine.
  4. Mortals join the mighty chorus,
     Which the morning stars began;
    Father-love is reigning o’er us,
     Brother-love binds man to man.
    Ever singing march we onward,
     Victors in the midst of strife;
    Joyful music lifts us sunward
     In the triumph song of life. Amen.
